FAQs
What is perinatal mental health?
The perinatal period begins prior to conception and continues through the first year of your baby’s life. During this time, many mothers (and fathers) experience increased anxiety, depression, and unwanted thoughts. Challenges with breastfeeding, adapting to a new way of relating to friends and family, and worry about “am I doing it right?” can further harm your confidence and attachment with baby.
Therapy can help reduce these unpleasant and untrue thoughts so that you have more time to savor the moments with your little one. Therapy is also an important tool to address trauma that many women experience during the birthing experience.
What is an attachment parenting style?
Attachment parenting is a parenting approach that emphasizes developing a strong emotional bond between parents or caregivers and their children. It is based on the attachment theory, which was developed by psychologist John Bowlby in the mid-20th century. Attachment theory suggests that a secure and strong emotional attachment between a child and their caregiver is essential for the child's emotional and social development.
As an attachment-based therapist, I support attachment parenting by supporting parents through decisions around breastfeeding, baby-wearing, baby sleep, gentle parenting, and positive discipline.
What does it mean to have a “virtual office”?
Meeting in a virtual space means that you don’t have to worry about bringing baby along to an unfamiliar office or trying to line up childcare for your appointment. Using a HIPAA compliant video conferencing system, we are able to meet in a confidential and parent-friendly way!
Research supports virtual therapy is as effective as in-person services.
A virtual office allows me to work with clients living anywhere in the state of Indiana.
What styles of therapy do you use?
As a therapist, I use a variety of evidenced-based practices tailored to client preference and need.
In our first session, I will ask you lots of questions so that I can get to know you and the various experiences that have shaped you. In subsequent sessions, I use your unique journey and qualities to guide our work, helping you reach your goals as quickly as possible.
I use a strengths-based and solution-focused approach with new parents, because identifying your innate strengths is an important part of helping you to own your amazing qualities. I love using cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and EMDR to help clients restructure their thoughts in ways that increase their happiness and resiliency as parents.
Do you accept my insurance?
I accept several commercial insurances: Anthem BCBS, Aetna, and Optum (UHC/UHR). If I do not accept your insurance, I can provide a superbill that you can submit directly to your insurance company for reimbursement.
I also offer sliding scale for clients with demonstrated need.
